RECORD DETAILS

A blend of the “cool school” jazz era (re: June Christy and Chet Baker) with an innovative cookin’, swingin’ modern jazz rhythm section. Soulful vocal, saxophone ballads, tasty, muted trumpet and extraordinary piano solos. Moody, Cool & Hot!

Wanda Stafford with her smoky swinging jazz vocal stylings pairs with an innovative, modern rhythm section, and both a soulful trumpet and saxophone artist.

The music is from the era of the “cool school”. Scott Yanow,  jazz critic says “Wanda Stafford has a haunting voice, puts plenty of heart into her interpretations of lyrics, always improvises and never forgets to swing” Bob Switzer’s sweet sounding trumpet and Noel Jewkes soulful saxophone are perfectly paired with her on uptempo songs , latin rhythms and gorgeous ballads. Grant Levin’s piano style is remarkable, innovative, modern and a little unbelievable. Chris Amberger’s bass keeps a strong pulse on the whole project and adds to the immense all over good feel. Lorca Hart just keeps the rhythm cooking on swing, over the top wonderful on latin and very sensitive on ballads. The cohesiveness of the group is pure respect and love for each other. This was a live recording with only two written arrangements with only one take. The improvisational solos are heartfelt and pure. That’s jazz, That’s real, and that’s COOL.
